New Web Address

DFW Fiber Fest has a new web address: www.dfwfiberfest.org

For now, the link will direct you to the existing website. Sorry the class schedule is hard to read, but it will be remedied soon.

Our web hostess extraordinaire is busy building the new website. Hopefully, everything will be up and running in the next few weeks.

We appreciate your patience!

What Day Is It?

I don't know about y'all, but I still haven't acclimated to the real world yet. Last weekend went by in a blur. I would get up, get dressed, drive to Fiber Fest, see, talk, buy, drive home, crash into bed, rinse and repeat. Mentally, I am recharged. It was a nice break from my real life and work, but physically, I've been dragging all week.

It's Friday, already! I need to get peppy!!! I'm sure the rest of the board feels the same way.

Anyway, we had so much fun. We hope that you did too. We really enjoyed meeting all of you. I know I've made some new friends.

Margaret Hubert, my new BFF, Karen Klemp and Joan Schrouder - our nationally known teachers - were fabulous. If you missed taking a class from any of them - go ahead and cry about it. You really missed some opportunities to grow in your craft. I've been knitting for more years than I care to remember, and I learned so much from them.

Our local teachers - Alissa Barton, Leef Bloomenstiel, Suzanne Corriera, Pat Coulter and Suzann Thompson - brought some great techniques to learn too. I know I am very lucky to live near enough these ladies to be able to cough-bug-cough, er, consult with them should the need arise.

Then - there was the vendor hall - Whoa! There was so much fiber packed in the Addison Conference Center, that the fumes were intoxicating! We had a great core of returning vendors - Fiber Circle, Fire Ant Ranch, Jojoland International, Stitch Elegance, FiberClouds, Fiber Lady, The Knitting Fairy, The Accidental Knitter, The Spirit of Knitting, MadelineTosh, and Yarn Again. New to Fiber Fest this year were Sealed With A Kiss (S.W.A.K), Brooks Farm Yarns, The Knitting Nook, Piscean Knits, Timber Lodge Alpacas, Great Yarn Company, Lone Star Arts, Trinity Ridge Alpacas and Spinning Straw into Gold. And let's give a shout out to Yarns Ewenique for sponsoring the bags that helped you carry your purchases home!

The Woolie Ewe did a marvelous job providing an entertaining fashion show on Friday night. Hats off and many thanks to Jill, Sue, Pam, Roxanne, Opal and the models for a great time.

Check back in the coming days - there will be pictures.

Sponsor Spotlight - The Woolie Ewe

If you've never been to the Woolie Ewe in Plano, you really should take the time and visit. There is fiber for every budget, and lots of it. The store is owned by mother and sister duo, Sue Tuley and Jill Brown.

There's always something going on at the Ewe. Last year was the Year of the Teacher, and such people as Debbie Bliss, Joan Shrouder and Louisa Harding, just to name a few, came to the store and taught many creative things. The tradition has continued this year. Already, Louisa Harding has returned and Fiona Ellis came and taught several classes. Lucy Neatby is set to come impart some of her wisdom and creativity in May.

This year at the Fiber Fest, the Woolie Ewe is sponsoring the fashion show on Friday night. It's free to everyone taking a class, and only $10.00 for those who are not. It will be ten dollars well spent. Join us to see the crafted items that will be modeled and get inspired to make something for yourself, or for that special someone on your gift list.

The Woolie Ewe is located at 1301 Custer Road #328 in Plano. Their phone number is 1-800-460-YARN(9276) or 972-424-3163.They are open Mon - Fri 10 to 6 and Sat 10 - 4:30. Be sure and stop by and say hello. You'll be glad you did.

Class Cancellations

Because of low registrations, we regret that the following classes have been cancelled:

Spectacular Crochet Squares
Traditional and Gathered Crocheted Rose
Crocheted Violet and Pansy

The next time we will assess class registrations will be next weekend. Keep checking the website for any further cancellations or closings (due to full classes).

Classes...Classes....Get Your Red Hot Classes Right Here!

Felted Scarves has closed. There were only six spots, and it is a popular class; so, it filled up quickly.

In a couple of weeks, we will be assessing the status of the classes, and the ones with low registrations will close.

If you are contemplating taking a class - do not delay. Just as classes can close for being full, they can also be cancelled for lack of interest.

So...what are you taking?

Sponsor Highlight - Yarns Ewenique

Today, I would like to spotlight one of our sponsors. For the second year in a row, they are making it possible to provide you with a FiberFest bag. We hand it to you with your reservation information at check in, and you can use it to hold purchases that you make in the vendor hall.

Yarns Ewenique, located on historic Camp Bowie Boulevard, is Fort Worth’s premiere destination for knitting needles, crochet hooks, sock yarn and “ewenique” fibers. Arriving soon are the new, redesigned Amy Butler knitting bags and the three new fabric patterns of Lexie Barnes bags with one new bag shape.

At Yarns Ewenique they are all about “GREEN”. Visit them and see the new spring lines of ecological cotton from Rowan, Mirasol, and others.

Yarns Ewenique has just launched its first “Ewenique Feet” Sock Club- six original sock patterns using high end sock yarn. If you missed the 2008 edition of “Ewenique Feet” look for information in the fall on their website for the 2009 edition.

Yarns Ewenique classes for knitting and crochet are filling up fast. Give them a call to reserve your spot.

Here's their contact information:

Updates 1/22/08 - Classes and Vendors

Hey Fiber Fiends!

The Basic Sock and the Felted Scarves classes are almost full. If you were thinking that you might want to take one or both of these classes, now is the time to make the decision.

As for vendor space, we are trying to work out a configuration to include additional vendors, but at this time we are almost out of space. If you have sent in your reservation, please check to be sure that your check has cleared. If you have been debating about whether to come - don't debate too long!

Once the space is full, we will notify you that you are on a waiting list and will not deposit your payment until we can confirm a space. If there is no space available, your check will be returned. Of course you are still welcome to put an ad in the program and donate a door prize or raffle item, or provide goody bag items. All of these will get your name in front of the attendees, although obviously are not as good as the sales you will make.

Thanks!

Wanna Be A Vendor?

We've had a couple of requests for vendor packets through the comments section of our first post. Please direct requests for vendor packets to dfw-fiberfest@earthlink.net.

We may not catch your request on a timely basis if you leave it in a comment here, and we would hate to miss it.

At this point, I do not know how close we are to filling our spots, but will know more in the next week or two.
Our past vendors were given the opportunity to reserve spots first, before we made spots available for new vendors. Do, however, turn in your application and check, if you are interested, because we fill the spots on a first-come, first-serve basis. If spots are filled before we get your check, we will send it back to you.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
